Visit to Homes
The Protect the Girl Child Initiative has partnered with various associations and bodies to ensure it lends its voice in totally eradicating violence against women and girls in any form be it rape, female genital mutilation, harmful widowhood practices, lack of education or poor education as the case may be, human trafficking, health matters and all other sorts of vices targeted at women and girls
There have been countless visits to the less privileged homes in the state where food supplies, medical attention, educational support were provided where needed such as:
Children’s Home Borikiri, Port- Harcourt,
- Home for the Elderly, Harbour Road, Port- Harcourt,
- The Child at D/Line Corpus Christi Cathedral
- D. B. Ikpeme Foundation and Homes for Orphans and Children in Eagle Island Port- Harcourt.
- The daughters of Charity street children’s home
- Port-Harcourt prisons. Food supplies were given and an inmate who needed urgent medical attention was catered for by Her Excellency at RSUTH
- Degema Prison
- Remand Home
Furthermore, during the yuletide periods ,Her Excellency reaches out also to widows in the various LGA’s and churches. The Office of the Deputy Governor continued to partner with various organizations and parastatals in reaching out to the less privileged such as the African Women Lawyers Association, Mother of Good Counsel Initiative, the Caywood Brown Foundation etc.
A widow’s outreach was organized by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Her Excellency was there to support and also encourage the widows as a widow herself to keep their focus on God and ensure they do everything within reason to bring up their children and wards as outstanding citizens. At the end, support packages where shared to the widows who attended
Outreaches Organised
The Office of the Deputy Governor has successfully organized the following outreaches;
- Governor Wike’s Widows Outreach Program
- Governor Wike’s Market Outreach Program, Rivers East Senatorial District.
The market women outreach was held to sensitize and encourage market women about the sanitary condition of the markets. Market Women were brought in from the 3 senatorial districts. Our main focus were the small scale traders who were provided with free medical checkups, gift items, food and financial support for their businesses.
The Widows Outreach for Governor Wike was organized by Her Excellency the Deputy Governor. To encourage the women to understand that their voices was important and they should come out and make their votes count in the forthcoming election. Free medical checkup was provided by the Medical Women’s Association
