Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on Friday joined other worshippers and Christian leaders for the funeral service in honour of the Late Chaplain of Government House Port Harcourt Chapel of Everlasting Grace, Venerable Sunday Opara.
The funeral service was held at the Saint Thomas Anglican Church, Diobu in Port Harcourt.
In a condolence message, Governor Wike said that Venerable Sunday Opara truly measured up as a servant of God who brought hope and God’s salvation to thousands across Rivers State.
He wrote: “He was loyal to his family, friends and the church and in return he had enjoyed immeasurable love, respect and admiration of people all over the state.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Rivers State, I extend our deepest condolences to his family and the Church of God for this irreparable loss. “
Governor Wike joined his family to thank God for the wonderful life of Late Venerable Opara and his outstanding service to God and humanity.
The choir ushered the congregation into a spiritual mode when they sang the Jerusalem anthem . Hon Iyalla took the solo for the Jerusalem anthem as presented by the Government House Port Harcourt Chapel of Grace Choir.
The choir of St Thomas Anglican Church, presented a soul touching anthem at the funeral service.
The Scripture Union of Nigeria presented a special number in honour of the departed chaplain of Government House Port Harcourt.
In a sermon, Anglican Bishop of Niger Delta North, Rt Rev. Wisdom Ihunwo called on people to work towards the salvation of their souls.
He said there is danger ahead, hence humanity must escape by embracing God. He said only God can save humanity.
He said: “You need to serve God. The solution we need now is Jesus, because Jesus is the answer. “
The cleric said that the late Venerable Sunday Opara was an honourable man, who worked right before God and man.
