BENEFICIARY OF DR BANIGO’S FREE SKILLS ACQUISITION PROGRAMME GIVES BACK TO SOCIETY

Adokiye Omuaru one of the beneficiaries of the Free Skills Acquisition Programme of Her Excellency the Deputy Governor of Rivers State Dr.(Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo has flagged off an intensive free one-month training in shoe making and leather works as part of ploughing back his skills to society.

Speaking during the commencement of the training at his workshop in Rumuosi, Port Harcourt on Tuesday 1st November 2022 Mr Adokiye Omuaru expressed gratitude to the Deputy Governor for all her support and encouragement to the youths in the State.

He said “I was privileged to be a beneficiary of the free skills acquisition of the Deputy Governor of Rivers State sometime in 2020. Over 3,000 of us were trained, and later she aided me with some starter pack, and today as you can see I am an employer of labour”.

According to the CEO/ Creative Director of Made2Feet Shoemaking Brand what they are doing is a one-month intensive training on shoe making, with trainees drawn from the eight Local Government Areas of Rivers West Senatorial District which is part of the Deputy Governor’s initiative of giving back to the people, adding that an online selection was made and 20 persons were selected out of 107 candidates who applied from the Rivers West Senatorial District.

In his response, a trainee from Abua Odual Local Government Area Mr Sokari Wariboko said “I am here to learn how to make shoes, under the sponsorship of the Deputy Governor alongside Made2feet Shoemaking Brand. I saw the advert online, I have always had the flare to acquire skills because there are no more jobs anywhere, but with a skill, you can do things for yourself and earn money”.

He further said “I did not know anybody but I was selected and I am happy, the training is ok as I have been able to learn things about shoemaking. This is a kind gesture by the Deputy Governor and if we have more people like her in positions of authority that have the heart to impact on people’s lives, this State would be a better place”.
